The purpose of this competition is not to show off but promote camaraderie among dancers while challenging dancers to improve their dance skills and reward them for it!
This contest is for local residents of Hampton Roads only.
Only amateur dancers are allowed to participate. No professional dancers are allowed. (Professional dancers = anyone who has taught dance classes on a regular basis, past or present)
Lifts/tricks, choreography will result in disqualification.
Judging is based on timing, technique, musicality, audience response, styling and connection.

Best Lead & Best Follow each receive:
1st Place:
$300 cash, 1 free Full Pass to BVSF, Free entrance to our events in January and February, Gift Cards/Apparel Swag from Java Surf, T-shirt from BVDC, bottle of wine
2nd Place:
$150 cash, Free entrance to our events in January, Gift Cards/Apparel Swag from Java Surf, T-shirt from BVDC, bottle of wine
3rd Place:
$75 cash, 1 Free event with guest, Gift Cards/Apparel Swag from Java Surf, T-shirt from BVDC, bottle of wine
Qualifying Round 1
Date: December 1st
Location: Virginia Beach Winery
Time: 7:00pm to 11:00pm with Competition at 9:15pm
Details: Dancers must register in advance using the link. All dancers will have their names placed in a hat, (one for Leads and one for Follows). We will randomly draw a name from each and you two are partners.
All dance partners will dance 2 songs. After the dances, audience applause will decide the top 6 dancers and BVDC will select another two dancers for a total of 8 moving on to Round 3.
*Those selected to move on will not have to compete in Round 2. Come cheer on the other participants!
Qualifying Round 2
Date: December 8th
Location: Virginia Beach Winery
Time: 7:00pm to 11:00pm with Competition at 9:15pm

Knockout Round 3
Date: December 15th
Location: Hot Tuna on Shore Drive
Time: 8:00pm to 12:00am with Competition at 10:00pm
Details: All 16 dancers will have their names placed in a hat, (one for Leads and one for Follows). We will randomly draw a name from each and you two are partners.
All dance partners will dance 2 songs. After the dances, audience applause will decide the top 6 dancers and BVDC will select another 2 dancers for a total of 8 moving on to the Final Round!
Final Round!
Date: December 18th
Location: The Vanguard Brewpub & Distillery in Hampton
Time: 4:30pm to 8:00pm with Competition at 6:30pm
Details: You made it! Now it is time to shine and go for it all! Only 6 of 8 dancers will place and win prizes in this final showcase. All 8 dancers will have their names placed in a hat, (one for Leads and one for Follows). We will randomly draw a name from each and you two are partners.
All dance partners will dance 2 songs. After the first song, partners will switch with another drawing. But the second song you will dance just as a couple alone! One couple at a time to test your social dance skills. Winners will not be selected by audience applause but by a panel of judges for third, second and first place. Then we will finally crown Hampton Roads Best Bachata Social Dancers (Lead & Follow) for 2022!
